Gamifying hand-hygiene as a war on AMR

There was a need to create a unique training strategy to induce a behavior change for strict compliance with the hand hygiene practices in the hospital. Unless the bacterial contamination was not seen with one’s own eyes, the impact of the hand hygiene could not be emphasized enough. Hence a virtual reality based gamified learning was needed to give a visual impression of bacterial cross contamination, while working in a real life like situation.

Target Audience

Doctors, nurses & ward attendants

Challenges

The hospital hand hygiene compliance rates remain at <50% despite different training and auditing methods leading to increased AMR

Solution

Immersive, engaging game in Virtual Reality allows users to follow SPOs and if not experience the attack of microbials everywhere

I could see the mistake I was doing in real life while using the sanitizer. The game made me conscious of the same and corrected my behavior.Dr. Vaibhavi Upahye, Head Simulation Learning, Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, Pune
